Often called the finest hillfort in Britain — Tre'r Ceiri, the 'town of the giants', crowns a 485-metre peak of Yr Eifl on the Llŷn, its massive drystone ramparts still standing head-high in places around some 150 stone hut circles. Sea fills the view on three sides. The climb from the B4417 is steep but short, 40 minutes to an hour. The walls are fragile and irreplaceable, so don't clamber on them — and time it for golden hour, when the whole fort glows. Free and open.
Getting there
Tre'r Ceiri Hillfort is in Yr Eifl, Llŷn, Llŷn Peninsula. It's roughly 16 min (4.7 miles) from Nefyn , and within reach of Pwllheli (20 min) and Criccieth (27 min).
The nearest parking: Lay-by on the B4417 north-east of Llanaelhaearn (signed path). Grid reference SH 380 442 — works on any OS map and doesn't need a phone signal.
Good to know
Steep 40–60 min climb from the B4417; walls are fragile, don't climb them. Astounding at golden hour.
