A dark glacial lake cupped beneath the sweeping escarpment of the Black Mountain — remote, silent, and the setting for the ancient legend of the Lady of the Lake and the Physicians of Myddfai. This is Wales at its wildest. A steady track leads up from the road-end near Llanddeusant to the shore, and stronger walkers can climb on to the Fan Brycheiniog ridge for one of the great mountain walks of South Wales. Free and open; come prepared for real hill country.
