The Horseshoe Pass — a famous sweeping hairpin road climbing to 417 metres above Llangollen, with the Ponderosa café at the top and huge views over the Dee valley and the pale Eglwyseg escarpment. It's zero-effort scenery: drive up, pull into a lay-by and drink it in. Sunset from the top is superb, and the romantic ruins of Valle Crucis Abbey lie just off the road on the way up. Free.
