A steep wooded valley on the edge of Llangefni, carved by glaciers and threaded by the Afon Cefni, with a boardwalk running through it that is about as easy as good wildlife watching gets. Red squirrels live here and are regularly seen in the trees or running the handrails of the boardwalk itself; frogs, newts, lizards and eight species of bat share the reserve. The Welsh name, Nant y Pandy, means fulling mill brook and remembers the wool trade that once used the water. It is flat, largely step-free and genuinely good for pushchairs and wheelchairs, and it is free. A local nature reserve since 1995.
Getting there
The Dingle (Nant y Pandy) is in Llangefni, Anglesey, Anglesey (Ynys Môn). It's roughly 19 min (5.9 miles) from Benllech , and within reach of Menai Bridge (22 min) and Bangor (25 min).
The nearest parking: Town Hall pay-and-display in Llangefni town centre, then about ten minutes on foot to the southern entrance. Smaller car parks sit closer to the reserve itself. Grid reference SH 459 756 — works on any OS map and doesn't need a phone signal.
Good to know
Early morning and late evening are when the red squirrels show. Keep quiet and watch the handrails, not just the canopy.
